DynamicHorizon: Dynamic Island for Mac, Lock Screen Too
The notch on a MacBook is a black strip that does nothing. DynamicHorizon turns it into a live area like the iPhone's Dynamic Island: it unfolds for the song you are playing, shows downloads, timers and alerts as they happen, and keeps your music on the Lock Screen with lyrics. This piece covers what it shows, what the license includes, and how it compares with the other notch apps.

How do I get a Dynamic Island on my MacBook?
macOS has no Dynamic Island, so you install a notch app that draws one around the camera. DynamicHorizon ($11.99 once) turns the notch into a live area for music, timers, downloads, calendar events and alerts, opens on hover for clipboard history, AirDrop and audio output, and keeps your music with synced lyrics on the Lock Screen.

How do I get a Dynamic Island on my MacBook?
In short
Apple put a Dynamic Island on the iPhone but not on the Mac, so the notch stays empty unless an app uses it. DynamicHorizon sits there and expands only when something happens: a song starts, a download runs, a timer counts down, AirPods connect. The rest of the time the notch looks as it always did.
Live activities in the notch
Music: album artwork, a progress bar and playback controls unfold from the notch, with an output-device button to send audio elsewhere.
Activity: downloads, timers, calendar events and notifications appear as they happen.
System: battery changes, connected devices, and brightness and volume changes, which can replace the default macOS overlays.
MacBook notch app on hover
Move the pointer to the top of the screen and the notch opens further: browse clipboard history, switch audio devices, check the weather, or drop a file to share it with AirDrop. The developer counts more than 20 notch modules, and an optional Liquid Glass appearance arrived in version 2.2.2. On Macs and external displays without a physical notch, it draws the same area at the top edge.

Music on the Lock Screen, with synced lyrics
In short
When the Mac locks, most notch apps disappear with the desktop. DynamicHorizon keeps the player on the Lock Screen with artwork, playback controls and lyrics that follow the song, next to custom widgets. Synchronized Lock Screen lyrics arrived in version 2.2.4 on 11 September 2026.
Mac lock screen music controls
That matters if your Mac plays music while you step away, or sits locked on a desk next to you: you can pause or skip without signing in. It is also the clearest difference from the free option in the next section, whose roadmap still lists Lock Screen widgets as unfinished.
A young app that updates often
The first public beta shipped on 1 November 2025 and the first stable release on 26 November 2025. Since then the changelog lists more than 30 releases, the latest being 2.3.5 on 20 October 2026. The site footer still prints 1.0.0; the changelog is the place to check.
Every notch app worth buying, compared
In short
DynamicHorizon is the cheapest paid one-time notch app we could verify today, at $11.99. It is not the cheapest overall: Boring Notch is free and open source. Alcove and DynamicLake Pro cost a little more and allow three Macs per license, where DynamicHorizon allows one.

NotchNook alternative
NotchNook was the best-known notch app, sold for $25 once or $3 a month. On 23 October 2026 its official page at lo.cafe returns not found and the developer's homepage tells buyers that some lost access after a company dispute, so we could not confirm a way to buy it. If you are replacing it, Alcove and DynamicLake Pro are the closest paid matches, and our Aurora Notch spotlight covers an app built for notes, calendar and Macs with no notch at all.
Notch app without subscription
Every app in the table can be bought once; only Aurora Notch also sells a monthly plan. Read the license terms before you pay. DynamicHorizon's lifetime license covers updates for the current major version, while Alcove's FAQ promises all future updates. DynamicHorizon also has no trial, so its 14-day refund is your test period.

Who DynamicHorizon suits, and who should skip it
In short
It suits owners of one Mac who want music, alerts and a Lock Screen player from a single app, and who like an app that ships fixes every few weeks. Skip it if you want one license for several Macs, want a trial before paying, run macOS older than 14.6, or Boring Notch already does what you need.
DynamicHorizon is sold directly from its website through Paddle, not the Mac App Store. Its help center says it collects no usage data, telemetry or analytics, only a License ID and a Device ID for licensing; we did not run a network audit. It is an independent app, not affiliated with Apple, and the site does not say whether it runs on Intel Macs, so check before you buy if yours is one.
Before you buy
Check your macOS version (14.6 or newer), decide whether one Mac is enough, and use the 14-day refund window to try it with your music app. Everything here was verified on 23 October 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Does DynamicHorizon work on a Mac without a notch?
Yes. The developer says it adapts to Macs and external displays without a physical notch, and the changelog lists scaled-resolution and external-display fixes in versions 1.2.2 and 2.1.5. If your main goal is a notch-style area on a Mac mini or iMac, our Aurora Notch spotlight covers an app built around that case.
Is a paid notch app worth it when Boring Notch is free?
Only if you want something Boring Notch does not do yet. Boring Notch is free and open source (GPL-3.0) and already covers a lot: music controls, calendar, a charging indicator, a file shelf with AirDrop and a replacement volume and brightness HUD. Its README still lists Lock Screen widgets, Bluetooth device alerts and weather as unfinished. DynamicHorizon costs $11.99 once and has all three, plus a Lock Screen player with synced lyrics and clipboard history.
Can I use one DynamicHorizon license on two Macs?
No. The license works on one device at a time and is tied to the Mac’s hardware ID. It is transferable: if you buy a new Mac or have the logic board replaced, contact support to reset the key. Alcove and DynamicLake Pro allow three devices per license.
Is there a free trial of DynamicHorizon?
The site does not mention one. Instead it offers a 14-day money-back guarantee with no questions asked, processed through Paddle. Alcove, by contrast, offers a 72-hour trial.
Does DynamicHorizon collect any data?
Its help center says it does not collect or transmit usage data, telemetry or analytics. The only identifiers it collects are a License ID and a Device ID for license management. We did not run our own network audit.
Do I get future updates with the lifetime license?
You get all future updates for the current major version. The pricing policy defines lifetime as the supported life of that version, so a future major version could be a paid upgrade. Updates have been frequent: version 2.3.5 shipped on 20 October 2026.
