NicQuit: A Quit Smoking App With a Panic Button for Cravings

Most quit attempts are lost in a few bad minutes, not a bad month. NicQuit is an iPhone app built around those minutes: a red Panic Button that opens breathing, distraction games and small activities, with a craving log, progress counters and a quit forum around it. This piece covers what it does, what the lifetime unlock costs, and the free apps worth trying first.

TL;DR

What can I do on my phone when a cigarette craving hits?

Open something that keeps your hands and head busy for the few minutes a craving lasts. NicQuit puts a Panic Button on its home screen that leads to breathing, bubble popping, scratch art and quick activities, and it logs the craving's trigger. Its lifetime unlock is $79.99 on the App Store.

What can I do on my phone when a cigarette craving hits?

In short

Ride it out. QuitNow, Canada's quit service, says a single craving lasts 3 to 5 minutes, and Smokefree.gov advises switching to a different activity until it passes. NicQuit is built for exactly that window: one tap on the red Panic Button and you have something to do with your thumbs and your breathing.

Nicotine craving help in the moment

The craving tools sit as round buttons on the home screen: Bubble (pop bubbles), Breathing (a guided exercise) and Scratch (scratch away a layer to reveal calm art). An Interventions deck offers real-world activities as cards: swipe right to try one, left to skip. One card in the screenshots reads “Random Acts of Kindness”, which matches Smokefree.gov's own tip to help someone else when a craving hits.

Log the craving, see the trigger

Each craving can be logged together with what set it off. Over a few weeks the log shows your patterns, which is the part that helps you plan around the next craving rather than just survive it. The tab bar also carries an Analytics tab.

Four NicQuit screens: a Podcasts list with short episodes such as 5 Mental Tricks to Outlast a Craving, Journaling Prompts such as If I slip up, what would I want to remember in that moment, an Interventions card reading Random Acts of Kindness with swipe right to try and left to skip, and a Learn quiz asking how smoking increases your risk of stroke
Audio pieces, journal prompts, the swipe-through Interventions deck and a Learn quiz. From the app's App Store listing.

Progress you can see: timer, money and badges

In short

The home screen counts time since your last cigarette down to the second, with money saved and cigarettes avoided underneath. Milestone badges start at 1 hour smoke-free and step up a day at a time, each with a short message and a Share Achievement button.

Lessons, journal prompts and a quit community

In short

A Resources tab holds short audio pieces of three to four minutes, quiz-style lessons on what smoking does to the body, and guided journal prompts. A Forum tab is a feed of quitters' posts, each tagged with how long that person has been smoke-free.

Quit smoking with friends

The developer pitches NicQuit as quitting together: the website and the Product Hunt launch describe quit buddies who see each other's cravings, money saved and progress. The App Store screenshots show the public forum rather than a buddy screen, and we could not test the buddy feature, so treat the forum as the confirmed part.

The community forum, where each post shows the author's smoke-free time. From the app's App Store listing.

Is it a quit vaping app too?

The tagline says “quit vaping/smoking”, but the App Store description talks about cigarettes only and names no vape-specific tracking. If you vape, check that it counts what you actually use before you pay for the unlock.

NicQuit vs quitSTART, Smoke Free, QuitNow! and Kwit

In short

NicQuit is not the cheapest way to get craving help. quitSTART is free, Smoke Free keeps its core free with no ads, and QuitNow! is free with paid PRO extras. Kwit's lifetime premium costs $169.99. NicQuit's lifetime unlock is $79.99, and it is the youngest of the five, with no US ratings yet.

Checked on 13 October 2026 against each app's US App Store listing and Smokefree.gov. A dash means the feature is not listed, not that it is missing. Smoke Free's craving help is tips, a craving map and notes; QuitNow! lists an AI assistant and a course.

Quit smoking app without subscription

If paying monthly is the problem, the free apps come first: quitSTART costs nothing and has games and challenges for cravings, and Smoke Free's free tier tracks health, money and cravings without ads. NicQuit's case is one payment for its full set of craving tools and the forum. Its listing also shows $7.99 and $49.99 purchases with no billing period stated, so pick the item named NicQuit LifeTime if paying once is the point.

Who NicQuit suits, and who should skip it

In short

NicQuit suits iPhone users who want a craving button they can hit without thinking, a forum of people at the same stage, and one payment instead of a plan. Skip it if you want a free tool, a long track record with many reviews, or a language other than English.

It is young. NicQuit first came out on 9 January 2025, its latest version (1.22) shipped on 8 September 2025, and it has no ratings on the US store yet. It needs iOS 17. The privacy label says your email address and name are linked to you, which fits a forum account but is worth knowing. The seller is an individual developer, Thet Myat Noe.

An app is support, not treatment

For cravings that stay hard to handle, Smokefree.gov suggests combining short-acting nicotine replacement (gum or a lozenge) with the patch. Use NicQuit or any app alongside that, and ask a pharmacist or doctor what fits you. Everything here was verified on 13 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a quit smoking app without a monthly subscription?

Yes. quitSTART, from Smokefree.gov and the National Cancer Institute, is free, and Smoke Free keeps its core features free with no ads. If you want the paid extras of one app for a single payment, NicQuit sells a NicQuit LifeTime unlock for $79.99 and Kwit sells lifetime premium for $169.99. NicQuit also lists $7.99 and $49.99 purchases with no billing period stated, so choose the LifeTime item if paying once matters to you.

Is there an app to quit vaping with friends?

NicQuit is pitched as a way to quit vaping or smoking with quit buddies who see each other’s cravings and progress, and its forum lets you post and read other quitters’ stories. Its App Store description only talks about smoking, though, and names no vape-specific tools, so check that it tracks what you use before you pay.

How long does a nicotine craving last?

QuitNow, Canada’s quit service, says a single craving lasts 3 to 5 minutes, and that cravings are strongest in the first few days and then get weaker and less frequent. That short window is why distraction tools work: you only need to get through a few minutes at a time.

Is NicQuit the cheapest quit smoking app?

No. quitSTART is free, Smoke Free’s core features are free, and QuitNow! is free with paid PRO extras. NicQuit’s $79.99 lifetime unlock is cheaper than Kwit’s $169.99 lifetime premium, but it is a real price for an app with no US ratings yet.

Can a quit smoking app replace nicotine replacement therapy?

No. An app is support, not treatment. For cravings that stay hard to handle, smokefree.gov suggests combining a short-acting form of NRT, such as gum or a lozenge, with a long-acting one, such as the patch. Ask a pharmacist or doctor which fits you.
